Position Description

The Maritime Transportation Department (MART) at Texas A&M University at Galveston (TAMUG) invites applications for a non-tenure track Assistant Professor of the Practice position in the area of Advanced Navigation with the responsibility of going on summer training cruises and short transits aboard the training vessel fleet. The Texas A&M Maritime Academy is the only maritime academy that is part of an AAU institution - Texas A&M University. We seek a United States Coast Guard Unlimited Deck License and Standards of Training, Certification, and Watchkeeping 2010 endorsement with five (5) or more years in deck officer position and advanced knowledge in communication and vessel operations. Preferences include USCG Chief Mate or Master license with Master’s Degree.

The successful candidate will fulfill both a Professor and ship officer position as needed; participate in the Texas A&M Maritime Academy seagoing courses during the summer, and integrate both academic and ship operations to maintain licensing and educational requirements. The department is especially interested in qualified candidates who can contribute, through their research, teaching, and/or service, to the diversity and excellence of the academic community.

Anticipated start date is September 1, 2018 to teach two to three (2-3) sections of MART 204 Terrestrial Navigation, two to three (2-3) sections of MART 303 Celestial Navigation, and one (1) section of MART 205 Marine Surveying, plus participate in MART 200, 300, and 400 (summer cruises).
