Position Description

The Department of Marine Biology at Texas A&M University at Galveston (TAMUG) invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor (tenure track) in marine toxicology. The successful candidate will have a Doctoral Degree in toxicology or a related field and is expected to develop a strong, extramurally funded research program that integrates toxicology, marine ecology and marine chemistry. The individual’s research interests should focus on the effects of anthropogenic and/or natural materials on marine organisms at the subcellular, cellular, organismal (e.g. immunology and/or endocrinology), community or ecosystem level. He or she will contribute to the department’s undergraduate and graduate education mission through student mentoring and by teaching courses in marine toxicology and another area of specialization, preferably related to developmental biology, with an emphasis on marine organisms.

The appointment will be at TAMUG, the Galveston campus of Texas A&M University (TAMU), which emphasizes undergraduate and graduate education and research related to the ocean. With a rapidly growing undergraduate and graduate student enrollment (ca. 2,100 students presently but with a goal to reach 3,000 in the next 3-4 years), the campus offers a wide spectrum of ocean-based undergraduate and graduate education programs including Marine Biology, Marine Science, Maritime Administration, Maritime Studies, Offshore and Coastal Engineering, Marine Engineering Technology and Marine Transportation. The Department has recently moved into the new 100,000 sq. ft. LEED certified Ocean and Coastal Studies Building which includes experimental aquaria which enable collegial interaction among all fields of science on campus. Graduate appointments are available in the Marine Biology Interdisciplinary (Graduate) Degree program as well as other TAMU departments (Wildlife and Fisheries Science, Oceanography, Biology, etc.). The position comes with an attractive start-up package and a competitive salary. A history of successful grantsmanship will be viewed favorably, as TAMU is a Tier One research institution.
