Can students major in General Academics?
No. Students must choose or "declare" a major to graduate. They may delay their choice and complete up to 60 hours with an undeclared major.

How many courses should students take?
Most students take between 14 and 15 credits (about 5 courses) each semester. You need 12 credits to be considered a full-time student. They might sign up for a reduced load if they experience academic difficulties or work 20 hours per week.

What happens if students take fewer than 12 credits?
Fewer than 12 credits makes them part-time students. It could reduce or eliminate financial-aid or scholarship awards. It also slows your academic progress. You need 30 credits to be a sophomore; 60 credits, junior; and 90 credits, senior. (Only juniors can enroll in certain courses.)

Can I change my mind about staying in a course after the semester starts?
You may drop courses during the first four ( 4) class days. You may add courses during the first five (5) days. From the 5th through the 50th class day, you may Q-drop a course, you are allowed only three (3) Q-drops during your academic career.

What happens if I become ill and can't complete my coursework?
You may ask your instructor for a temporary grade of "I" (incomplete) or ask the dean's office for a withdrawal from all your classes. In both cases you must document the reason. 

Do I have to attend classes?
The rules differ from class to class, but attendance is strongly recommended. You cannot expect to do well without going to class.

What grade point average do I need?
You need a GPA of 2.0 ("C") to remain in good academic standing. If your GPA is lower than 2.0, you may be placed on scholastic probation or required to withdraw from the university.

May I repeat a course to improve my GPA?
Yes, if you earned a C or less. But the original grade stays on your transcript and is figured into your GPA.

May I take courses elsewhere to improve my GPA?
No. Only credit, not grades, will be accepted. But before you take a course elsewhere, ask the Office of Admissions and Records whether it will transfer for the credit you need. 

How long should students study?
They should make up a study schedule that is both realistic and practical. A good rule of thumb is to budget at least 2-3 hours of study per week for each hour of class. A student taking 15 credits should plan to study for 30 to 45 hours per week minimally.
