Texas A&M University at Galveston offers students a unique opportunity to obtain a broad-based, interdisciplinary education in the only Bachelor of Arts program offered on campus. Maritime Studies students have interests that are not restricted to science, business or technology -- we focus on the human aspect of the coastal and maritime environment.
Maritime Studies (MAST) is an interdisciplinary, liberal arts educational program emphasizing the relationship between people and the sea. All MAST students take courses that ensure a broad understanding of the varied ways that humans use and impact coastal and maritime environments. Students not only study the present, but also the history of maritime cultural adaptations, and the literary expression of mankind’s experience with the sea. The program has a distinctive, international emphasis.
MAST is the only Bachelor of Arts (BA) program on the Galveston campus and the only degree program that concentrates on the Liberal Arts. Students tailor the program to meet their interests by selecting advanced courses from the fields of public policy, cultural studies, and archaeology. Students in the program are prepared for futures in environmental management, park and recreation, nautical archaeology, museum conservation, culture anthropology, parks and wildlife, business, tourism, public service, education, law and graduate studies.
