Kempner Maritime Undergraduate Fellowship

 

This fellowship program was funded to encourage and support maritime education. Texas A&M University at Galveston graduates provide vital services in every facet of the maritime industry. Upon graduation, maritime students often find jobs in the deep sea fleet; the inland waterways tug and barge industry; coastal and offshore supply. Ashore, graduates can be found working in marine insurance, brokering and chartering, freight forwarding, port authorities, intermodal and container operations, admiralty law, environmental protection, oil spill responses, and ship design, building and repair. The maritime program at Texas A&M University at Galveston is one of only six in the entire United States and the only one located on the Gulf of Mexico.

The Kempner Maritime Undergraduate fellowship is an award of $3000, which is dispersed in increments of $1,000 per semester and for the summer cruise. All incoming freshmen enrolled in the licensed option (LO) program may apply.

LO curricula include:

  • Marine Transportation (MART)

  • Marine Science/License Option (MARS/LO)

  • Marine Engineering Technology (MARE)

  • Marine Biology/License Option (MARB/LO)

A full-time 3.0+ GPA must be maintained to retain the fellowship each semester.
Fellowship recipients will be selected by the Kempner Maritime Undergraduate Fellowship program committee based upon academic achievement, extracurricular involvement, and personal essay.


The application deadline is May 1st.
