Applying for 2008-09 Financial Aid

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) application for the 2008-09 academic year will be available after January 1, 2008.  Until then, we suggest students and parents follow the instructions below.

INSTRUCTIONS:

First, the student should obtain an e-mail address for future communication if the student does not already have one.  This is necessary for the Federal Processor, as well as the university, to communicate with the student electronically.

Next, all students and at least one parent of dependent students should obtain a Personal Identification Number (PIN). To obtain this, request a PIN at www.pin.ed.gov. This number acts as your electronic signature for FAFSA on the web. You will also be able to use the PIN to access your student aid history online, as well as use it to correct your Student Aid Report online once your FAFSA has been completed.

When the time comes to complete the FAFSA online, you will be requested to provide information from your 2007 Federal Income Tax forms.  Though the FAFSA is available after the first of the year, we recommend that you wait until your Federal Income Tax forms are completed.  When this is done, go immediately to the FAFSA website to complete the FAFSA form.  Follow the instructions very carefully.  At one point in completing the form, you will be requested to provide the Title IV School Codes for up to six colleges and universities you may be attending.  For Texas A&M University at Galveston, we use the same school code as Texas A&M University in College Station, TX, which is 003632.

Your financial aid eligibility is determined each year by completing the FAFSA.  This application is available in a paper and electronic format; however, we advise all students to complete the electronic form.
