Terry Traditional (Freshman) Scholarship


Students must complete the Apply Texas application for admissions and scholarships. You may access the application at www.applytexas.org. The deadline to submit the application is January 6, 2018. Please submit everything as soon as possible to be in the running for the Terry Foundation Scholarship. In order for you to be considered for the Terry Scholarship, you should complete all questions on the Apply Texas Application for admissions and scholarships and submit both when complete.

Traditional scholars must attend the university for which the student interviews for at least one year.

Yes, all students who are selected as Terry Traditional Scholarship recipients are REQUIRED to submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

The Texas A&M University at Galveston Terry Scholarship Committee will send you an email if you are one of the potential students who will be forwarded to the Terry Foundation for an interview.

Interviews are required. Potential Terry scholarship recipients are contacted by the Terry Foundation in March to schedule the date, time and location for the interview. Interviews are typically held in mid-April. Your interview expenses will be reimbursed by the Terry Foundation.

You will learn whether you were selected to receive the Terry Scholarship in a letter from the Terry Foundation. You will be notified before May 1.

No, you must be a Texas resident to apply for this scholarship.

Yes, as long as you were home schooled in Texas and completed home school in Texas.

You must maintain a 2.5 cumulative GPA and you must maintain a 2.0 GPA each semester. You will be required to attend a fall orientation session your first year and orientation lunch each subsequent year, annual Terry fall banquet, and the annual Terry Scholar picnic. You will receive information on these events and invitations from the Terry Foundation. You will receive a student handbook that will address in detail all the requirements.

Taking into account other scholarships that a student may receive, the Foundation provides sufficient assistance to cover tuition, books, fees, and reasonable living expenses on campus. The actual specific amount of the stipend will vary for each Scholar, depending on the other scholarship awards and the ability of the Scholar’s family to contribute to the cost of college. The Foundation encourages Scholars to apply for other scholarships or grants or any other financial assistance for which they may be qualified, so that the Foundation’s financial resources may be extended to help as many students as possible; however, it is the Foundation’s intent that Traditional Scholars will not need to incur student loan debt.

A Pell Grant is a federal grant for undergraduate students with financial need. Terry Traditional Scholar applicants must complete the FAFSA, and Terry Scholars who qualify for Pell Grants will automatically be awarded in the financial aid awarding process. Receiving a Pell Grant does not disqualify an applicant from being awarded a Terry Scholarship.

Yes, traditional Scholars are required to live on campus in the Terry-designated residence hall.



Terry Transfer Scholarship

Please submit everything as soon as possible to be in the running for the Terry Foundation Scholarship. In order for you to be considered for the Terry Scholarship, you should complete all questions on the Apply Texas Application for admissions and scholarships and submit both when complete.

The Transfer Scholarship is transferrable at any time to any of the other participating universities.

The amount of the Terry Transfer Scholarship is 65% of the Scholar’s official cost of attendance for the current academic school year, with a minimum guaranteed annual stipend of $13,000 for the 2016-2017 academic year, funded evenly between the two semesters.
