Financial Aid Instructions
STUDENTS:
Please visit fafsa.ed.gov to complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Students and parents will need their income tax returns available when completing the FAFSA. Texas A&M University at Galveston has a school code of 003632 (we use the same school code as Texas A&M University-College Station).
Students must log on to Howdy to accept or reject any financial aid that is offered to them, which will be listed under the "Award" tab. For any financial aid you would like to accept, please click the "Begin Processing" button below the offered awards. Then, click the "Choose..." drop down box under the "Action" column to accept or reject. You will need to do this for each award that is offered. If you would like to accept less than what is offered, please type the total amount you would like to accept for the academic year in the text box in the "Total Amount" column. If you accepted your awards, please complete all of your requirements before exiting Howdy (i.e. entrance loan counseling, Master Promissory Note [MPN], etc.). These incomplete requirements will be listed under the "Status" tab and will be marked with a red "X". These requirements will contain a link directing you to where the requirement can be completed, and there will be instructions to guide you through the completion process. Once the requirement is complete, the task will move to the "Complete Requirements" section and will be marked with a green check. If you were offered a Perkins loan and accepted it, then you must complete the application and promissory note and mail it to: TAMU-Financial Aid, Galveston Processing, P.O. Box 40005, College Station, TX 77842. You can access the application here and the promissory note here. Please be sure to have no scratch-outs on these documents, and please ensure that no field is left blank. If a question does not apply to you, please write N/A in the blank.
You must fill out a summer supplemental form if you are interested in receiving financial aid for the summer session(s). This form will be available around mid-March of the Spring 2013 semester. At that time, we will send an aggnews notification requesting that you complete the summer supplemental form if you are interested in receiving financial aid the Summer 2013 sessions.
If you are receiving an outside scholarship(s) (any money not coming from TAMUG), please complete the student data form located in the Financial Aid portal within the Howdy Portal.
PARENTS:
Parents wanting to accept their PLUS loan need to complete an application for the PLUS loan by logging on to studentloans.gov using their SSN, first two characters of last name, date of birth, and the PIN established when completing the FAFSA. After completing the application, you must also complete a Master Promissory Note (MPN) on the website. MAKE SURE YOU ARE REQUESTING THE MONEY NEEDED FOR THE ENTIRE SCHOOL YEAR FROM AUGUST TO MAY.
