Join us in the temperate climate and relaxed atmosphere that typify Galveston. Turn back the clock as you survey one of Texas' most historic port cities including the "New Orleans-like" Strand Historic District and examples of charming Victorian architecture. Relive the era of Jean Lafitte the legendary pirate! Explore the island's diverse environments of beach, salt marsh & gulf waters. Field trips include species identification of estuarine species aboard a research vessel, seining, beachcombing and birding on the coast, city studies and Moody Gardens-a 10-story tropical rainforest and aquariums. Learn about the species inhabiting the Gulf, such as bottlenose dolphins, estuarine birds, and the endangered Ridley Sea Turtles.
