Scientific Diving

Introduction to Scientific Diving course (MARB 345/MARB 616) is intended to prepare and qualify certified divers for entry into the TAMUG Scientific Diving program.  In order to become an AAUS (American Academy of Underwater Sciences) and TAMUG Scientific Diver, students must complete a rigorous training program including 36 dives.  These dives are included in a 2-part course series including this course and Methods in Research Diving (MARB 350/MARB 617). A weekend trip to a dive site in Texas will involve open water dives and skill tests. Students will receive certification in First Aid, CPR, DAN Oxygen Administration, and NOAA Nitrox I/II.

The Methods in Research Diving course (MARB 350/MARB 617) will be taught during the last two weeks of May at the US Naval Base in Panama City, FL and at fresh dive sites near Live Oak, FL. Water work to be done during lab sessions will include swimming, skin diving and scuba diving tests in the pool and open water.
