About the Board
The Diving Control Board(DCB) is an administrative committee, appointed by the Vice President or his/her representative, to oversee the diving program. A majority of the members must be experienced divers, including the Diving Safety Officer. The Vice President, or his/her representative, may appoint advisors and consultants to the Diving Control Board as appropriate.
The board also maintains the Diving Safety Manual, which includes procedures covering all diving operations specific to the dive program, procedures for emergency care, including recompression and evacuation, and criteria for diver training and certification. The DCB has the authority to approve and monitor diving projects; review and revise the Diving Safety Manual; certify depths to which a diver has been trained; and assure adherence to the buddy system for scuba diving.
The DCB also has the authorities of establishing and/or approving training programs through which applicants for certification can satisfy requirements of this Manual; take disciplinary action for unsafe diving practices, and act as a board of appeal to consider diver-related problems; approve locations where diving may be conducted under University auspices; approve new equipment or techniques for University use; and establish and/or approve facilities for inspection and maintenance of scuba associated equipment.
