Don And Carol Harper Scholarships In Marine Invertebrate Zoology

Established: 2013 by Donald E. Harper, Jr.

Purpose: To provide two scholarships to full-time students in good standing at Texas A&M University at Galveston; to be awarded as follows:
  • One scholarship to a student pursuing an undergraduate degree in Marine Biology.
  • One scholarship to an additional student pursuing an undergraduate degree in Marine Biology or an incoming graduate student in Marine Biology who without the scholarship, would not have the funding available to enroll in the Marine Biology graduate program.
Additional Selection Preferences:
  • Recipients of one award may be a Junior, Senior, or Graduate student with a GPA of 2.5 or higher and a demonstrated financial need.  They should have a demonstrated interest in the field of marine invertebrate research and have completed invertebrate zoology with a B or better.  
  • Recipient of the other award (if an undergraduate) must be a student of the same type as above.  If a graduate student, the requirements are same as above, plus must have graduated from an accredited institution of higher education with a 3.0 average in major and curriculum.
  • Scholarships are renewable for one year by maintaining a 3.0 (B) average in major and curriculum and demonstrating a continued interest in marine invertebrate research.
