The Mitchell Society is christened in honor of George Phydias Mitchell, who donated, in honor of his parents, the land for the main campus of Texas A&M University at Galveston.
The Society is comprised of those who want the Galveston campus of Texas A&M University to have the necessary private support to thrive and grow as the only maritime university on the Gulf Coast and one of the premier ocean-front universities in the world.
TAMUG needs significant private support to provide the margin of excellence to enhance the entire University, to a level well beyond what can be achieved with State and other standard support.
Members of the Mitchell Society are individuals and organizations who contribute $1,000 annually after being invited by the President of TAMUG to join. Their gifts support:
Scholarships to recruit and retain outstanding students
Recognition of outstanding faculty and staff
Intercollegiate competition for student teams
Mitchell Society members are invited to special events on campus, interact with students and receive early briefings on TAMUG developments.
