Heather is currently working as a Graduate Research Assistant for the Center for Texas Beaches and Shores. Before beginning her research, she was employed as a Regulatory Specialist for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers where she gained valuable insight and experience which continues to assist her with her current projects.
As a Research Assistant, Heather is working on a project, headed by Dr. William Merrell, which identifies the need for the Houston/Galveston region to devise a comprehensive regional approach to surge suppression. Their research proposes the creation of a "coastal spine" to protect the increasingly vulnerable region from hurricane storm surge and analyzes the effects and feasibility of such a project.
