As a Research Assistant, Carland has assisted on a research project headed by Dr. Wes Highfield studying debris management after major hurricanes and storms and is currently assisting on a project also headed by Dr. Highfield conducting a damage assessment for Bolivar Peninsula (Chambers County, TX) in the wake of Hurricane Ike in 2008 utilizing GIS strategies. His Masters project consists of developing a resiliency analysis of the Rigs-To-Reef Program.
Carland has many interests including environmental planning, coastal resilience, coastal sustainability, and environmental policy. He is set to graduate from Texas A&M in December of 2011 and will explore environmental disciplines with the possibility of applying for Doctoral programs.
