where she gained valuable insight and experience which continues
to assist her with her current projects.
As a Research Assistant, Heather is
working on a project, headed by Dr. William Merrell, which
identifies the need for the Houston/Galveston region to devise a
comprehensive regional approach to surge suppression.
Their research proposes the creation of a "coastal spine" to
protect the increasingly vulnerable region from hurricane storm
surge and analyzes the effects and feasibility of such a
project.
Heather is specifically interested in
environmental planning and coastal resilience and
sustainability. She is expected to graduate from the
Marine Resources Management program in may 2010, and hopes to
continue her work in one of these fields.
