| We have
been at sea now for eight days on this leg of our voyage. The daily
routine is becoming monotonous for the cadets and they are beginning to
think of the next port of call. Yesterday was Sunday. The evening meal on
Sundays at sea is a BBQ on the fantail. The grilled hamburgers and ribs
with all the fixings Is a welcome break from the normal food fare on the
ship. The cadets eat their dinner and then sit around the fantail relaxing
with their friends and listening to loud music. Some even tried their hand
at fishing, but no one had any luck. Fallon Thorbin had lady luck on her
side and won third place in the Texas Hold 'Em tournament.
Congratulations, Fallon. It was an enjoyable evening and a great way to
break up the routine. Our north bound track takes us further off the coast than our south bound trip did. Because of this, there have been fewer sightings of whales, birds or other vessels. One sea bird has taken up residence on the vessel. It sits up on the foremast when it is not circling the vessel looking for fish. Today, we are off the coast of Peru. We may sight some fishing fleets tonight. We will cross the equator on Wednesday. As we near the sea lanes leading to and from the Panama Canal, we should begin to sight other vessels again.
