| The
weather has been nice today as the winds and seas have abated. The skies
remain overcast which means that the cadets cannot work on their celestial
navigation projects. This delights some cadets while others are saddened
because they want to complete the celestial project before we arrive in
Peru. Tomorrow we will cross the equator at around 1130 hours. For most of our cadets this will be their first time to be in the southern hemisphere. Since today is a Sunday spent at sea, we had a BBQ on the after deck in the evening. Most of the cadets doing day work and Training classes were released early today to relax and to attend the BBQ. In addition to enjoying the fine food, the cadets fished, played games, and visited with their friends, It was a relaxing time for everyone, especially cadet Seth Baker who was laying in his hammock swinging as the ship rolled. Some of our engineering cadets enjoying the fresh air up on deck at the BBQ were Nikolaos Anastasiadis, Albert Caskie, Elvis Ngande, and Carlos Perez. Senior engineering cadet Folabi Bolatiwa is excited about standing a bridge watch tomorrow. He is looking forward to steering the ship. Each senior engineering and deck cadet is required to stand a watch in the opposite department for one day during the cruise in order for them to have a better understanding of what their counterparts do.
