Daily Ship's Report

Zihuantanejo, Mexico

Today is the last liberty day for this port as we sail for Lima, Peru at 0700 tomorrow morning. Our cadets have had a good time here. They can be quite loud on the boat ride back to the ship, but they know that when they get back on board ship the fun is over and they need to rest for whatever the next day holds for them.

Ixtapa is just a short cab ride away and many of our cadets have gone there to enjoy their beaches and surf. James Gregory reported the surf was great just north of Ixtapa. Our cadets in Division 3 went to Ixtapa to have a party together on their first night of liberty. Caroline Purvis, and Amy Luna enjoyed a swim at the local beach. Robert Tambe enjoyed having a break from the engine room so that he could watch the World Cup Soccer finals.
Too many cadets to mention have enjoyed shopping for t-shirts and local trinkets. Christopher Tiefenbrunn collected his reward for making the highest grade of all the freshmen last year on the Coast Guard Examination.
Helping him celebrate were Robert Turner and Shaun Quinn. Troy Baker could not wait to tell his brother Seth Baker about his adventures ashore.

The charter fishing business got a boost today as Matthew Pippen, Brandon Bagley, William Butler, Joseph Lindinger, Sammy Baiamonte, Blaine Garrity, Nial Kennedy, R. J. Young, John Edwards, Robert Cope, and John Lashley all went charter fishing. There has to be something about fishing that gets guys going. Sometimes we can't get them to an 8 o'clock formation on time, but they were all up and waiting to go fishing at 6 o'clock this morning.
