| The cadets
woke up this morning to drizzling rain and increased rolling of the ship.
Our meteorologists for the day had predicted continued good weather. I
won't tell who our meteorologists were because they missed in the morning
but by noon their predictions were right as the skies cleared and our
weather returned to hot and dry. Underway training was canceled for the morning due to the weather. Fire and boat drill was held during the afternoon. There was a simulated emergency in the after house. The cadets in Emergency Squad #2 dressed out in full bunker gear to respond to the simulated emergency. Ryan Vechan said he was glad that it was cooler today because the bunker gear was very hot. The lifeboats were lowered and all of the cadets were instructed on their duties. During the past few days the rust on many of the rails has been removed and the metal sealed and primed. Joe Keil and James Gregory were painting the white finish coat on the rails today. In the engine spaces Jian Zhou was taking an inventory of spare parts. Doing one of the more unpleasant.but very necessay jobs on board the ship were Seth Baker and Jonathan Bush. They were burning the trash. A ship with as many people as we have generates a huge amount of garbage. There are strict regulations on how garage may be disposed of and what is done with each type of garbage must be logged everday. Luke Grundmeyer was doing galley duty today, another duty that the cadets are not too fond of , but one which must be done. Tomorrow morning we arrive in Zihuantanejo, Mexico. Our cadets are looking forward to going ashore and experiencing a new culture. Captain Jack Smith Senior Lecturer Marine Transportation Department |
