Trent
Thornton is a USCG licensed Chief Engineer, Steam Vessels of Any Horsepower
and Third Assistant Engineer, Motor Vessels of Any Horsepower.
Trent graduated from Texas A&M University at Galveston in 1986 with a BS in Marine Engineering, License Option, and received a Third Assistant Engineer's license for Steam and Motor vessels of any horse power. He sailed for more than 10 years aboard product and chemical tankers. Trent has also worked as a start-up engineer for activation and sea trials of MARAD reserve fleet vessels. His previous work in maritime education includes two training cruises as First Assistant Engineer aboard the T/S Texas Clipper, two trips as Chief engineer aboard the Sea Education Association's sailing ship SSV Corwith Cramer, and lecturing on marine engineering operations in classes offered by the Center for Marine Training and Safety.
Trent is a member of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers. He currently teaches Basic Machine Shop Techniques and Welding Techniques.
