Haupt, Karl
Born
and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio and
attended TAMUG from 1977 to 1981. Graduated TAMUG, May 1981 with MARSLo
Degree and Third Mates License. Over the next 13 years sailed for Keystone,
Lykes Brothers, and Mormac Marine. Received Master’s License AGT in February
1992. Worked shoreside for SeaRiver-Baytown.
Started teaching at TAMUG in January 1996. Sailed as Captain/Commandant on
the Texas Clipper II from 1997-2000. Teaching on a Fall/Spring Appointment
TAMUG in MART from January 2001 to present. Presently teaching, Celestial
Navigation, Electronic Navigation, The Navigator, GMDSS Global Maritime
Distress and Safety System), and CBR-D (Chemical, Biological and
Radiological-Defense). Summer months working for CMTS-TEEX teaching Fast
Rescue Boat, Bridge Resource Management, Basic Offshore Survival Training,
etc.
Member of TAMUG Campus Judicial Board, TAMU Faculty Senate, TAMUG NROTC-PRB
and Propeller Club Faculty Advisor. Other accomplishments include backpacking
Appalachian Trail
1982, Pacific Crest Trail 1986, and Continental Divide (Mexico to Denver)
1990. Local involvement in Galveston Youth Soccer Club, Galveston
Rugby Football Club, and Island Little League.
