General Cruise Information Sophomore Year This cruise
is a two month four hour credit course. On sophomore cruise cadets are
introduced to terrestrial navigation, watchstanding and VHF communication.
These Cadets are required to complete a terrestrial navigation project, an
engine room watch and a VHF radio project. Junior Year This cruise
is the most anticipated by cadets. On Junior Cruise Cadets get industry
experience sailing with the most respected commercial sailing lines, which
includes SeaRiver, Polar, and MSC. While at sea junior cadets are expected
to complete a lengthy sea project that combines celestial navigation,
naval architecture, and cargo operations. Senior Year This is the final of the three required cruises. On a cadet's senior cruise they are thrust into a role similar to that of a ship's mate. With the guidance of the officers of the Texas Clipper II senior cadets run the bridge watch. Seniors are also responsible for passing a celestial navigation project and mastering seven words per minute at blinker light.
