Last night the
cadets and crew had a great time in the hanger which was
converted into the "Texas Nugget." At 1930 the doors
opened to a line of cadets waiting outside the "Texas
Nugget." Upon entering, each cadet was issued 150 TCII
currency for the night. Cadets played cards, roulette
and craps until 0030 the next morning. Crewmembers
went around serving cokes and refreshments to cadets.
On Saturday at
1000, the signal for fire was sounded and the drills
commenced. The simulated fire was in the laundry room.
Cadets, in DC I & II dressed in full bunker gear, reported
to the scene of the fire. Fire hoses were put over the
side on the bow, stern, and flybridge.
After the fire
drill, the signal for abandon ship was sounded.
Lifeboats 1 & 2 were lowered to the water and released.
Cadets navigated the lifeboats around the ship for 30
minutes and then the lifeboats were hoisted back aboard the
ship.
