Trivia

How many knots of wind are required to equal one knot of current for the same surface area?

Yesterday's  Answer:

The pivot point of a ship is approximately 1/3 the vessel's length from the bow when moving ahead and 1/3 the vessel's length from the stern when moving astern.  The pivot point is always moving, for that reason it is sometimes referred to as the peripatetic pivot point.

shipThis morning has been cloudy.  Some cadets still working on their star days, fortunately they were able to shoot some stars this morning.  The ship has been rolling approximately 10° - 15° in a quartering sea.

Last night Cadets Gee, MacMurdo, C. Winters, and Boucher worked until 2000 painting the cargo hold deck red.  They did an excellent job.

This afternoon, cadets who entered the beard growing contest were judged in the following categories:  fullest beard, most creative beard, and the cadet who tried hardest to grow a beard but could not (the peach fuzz award).  Cadet Garrity won the fullest beard, Cadet Moon won for the most creative beard, and Cadet Boucher won the peach fuzz award.

Today is overcast with occasional drizzle.
