Cadets were up early for stars but the
weather did not cooperate. However, shortly after sunrise it
became a great day.
At 0615, cadets were standing by their cleaning stations for
daily inspections. Overall, they have been doing a very good
job this summer.
Very few of the male cadets have shaved in the past week
because of the beard growing contest. This year, the
majority of the mates have entered the contest. From what I
have seen, I think a mate will win the contest considering
most of the cadets tire having a very hard time growing a
good beard. Cadet Garrity has the best beard in my opinion.
Cadets have been very busy doing blinker light which is
required to be completed by San Juan. Cadet Perez was the
first cadet to complete blinker light this cruise. Cad Perez
enjoys blinker light and likes to spend his leisure sending
and receiving morse code. Unfortunately, most cadets do not
enjoy blinker light as much as Cadet Perez.
Cadets have been painting the exterior of the ship and
cleaning the interior. Cadets on galley duty have been doing
a very good job of stripping and waxing the decks after
dinner. After the decks are waxed, the ship's doctor
inspects the spaces, and if the space is exceptional the
cadets get merit hours which makes them very happy.
We expect to have a beautiful sunset tonight.
