What is an opening in the side of a ship called?

Yesterday's  Answer:
A bathroom is called a "head" on a vessel because on the old sailing ships the latrines were in the forward part of the vessel which is called the head.

paintingToday is a sunny day and the seas are relatively calm, the first time in a while. Cadets are working outside painting and the house and decks.
