This
morning at 0755 a personnel inspection was conducted. Cadets
were inspected for pressed uniforms, polished brass, shined
shoes, shaves and haircuts. Overall, the cadets looked
excellent. Those who failed had another inspection at 1800.
1000 a fire drill was conducted. The simulated fire was a
class "A" fire in the wet lab. Cadets dressed in full bunker
gear and reported to the fire from damage control 1 & 2. On
the bridge, Cadet Curtis and Cadet Perez navigated during
the drill. At 1018, on scene reported the fire was out of
control and recommended abandoning ship. Cadets and crew
mustered at their lifeboat stations where muster was taken.
The lifeboats were not lowered to the rail because of rough
weather. Cadets were instructed in their duties.
At 1300, a cabin inspection was conducted. Cadets eagerly
stood at attention outside their cabins awaiting for the
mates to inspect their cabins. Cadets are always proud to
show off their clean cabins. Overall, the cabins looked very
good.
At 2000, the 2004 Texas Clipper II - Beauty Pageant was
held. This year's theme was "Spanish Sweethearts of the
North Atlantic". To provide the proper atmosphere, pictures
of large cows in pastures were behind the stage. Cadet Sacra
was the host for this years pageant. He introduced the three
contestants, Cadet Johnson, Cadet Biamonte, and Cadet
Brunson as contestants. The cadets are rated in three
different areas: talent, evening gown, and bathing suit.
Cadet Johnson and Biamonte danced to various types of music
for the talent contest while cadet Brunson told an engineer
joke. Afterwards, the three contestants sported their
evening gowns and then bathing suits where they posed for
the large audience. Cadet Johnson was crowned Miss Texas
Clipper II, while Cadet Biamonte was first runner up. It was
interesting that three of the four cadets involved are from
the New Orleans area and all did an excellent job in
entertaining us. I just hope they don't run for politics!
Seas are on the beam and the ship is rolling moderately.
