Cadets
and crew received an earlier than expected awakening from
the sound of the ship's whistle sounding one prolonged blast
at intervals of not more than two minutes. At
approximately 0500, the ship entered fog for the first time
this summer. By 0730 the fog had lifted and the
whistle signal was secured.
Last night, deck cadets on watch
started standing watch in the engine room. This will
give the deck cadets practical knowledge of the engine room
and how the different systems operate. After standing
four engine room watches at sea and one watch in port, the
deck cadets will be given an oral exam on engine room
procedures which is considered part of their watch-standing
grade.
The weather is overcast with a
following sea 4' to 6'. Currently, we are in between a
low to the north and a high to the south.
