Trivia

What is the distance of a marine league?

Yesterday's  Answer:
A mop is called a "swab" aboard ship and the traditional way of cleaning a swab entails trailing the swab behind the ship attached to a line.  Each morning, the cadets swab the interior decks of the ship as part of their cleaning stations.

serversDue to weather north of our position, we are going to do a mercator sailing (straight line), instead of a great circle sailing to Fastnet Rock, Ireland which would bring us further north.

At 0615, the cleaning stations were inspected and all passed inspection, a first for this summer.  After the 0730 formation, cadets started class at 0800 and the maintenance started painting the outside of the ship, while other cadets worked in the galley serving food with a smile and stripping decks.

Engine cadets have been repairing the incinerator and working with Bill Russell, the ship's welder, on various deck projects.

Tonight at 2100, stargazers will congregate on the flybridge (deck over the bridge) to start learning the celestial constellations such as Ursa Major, Scorpio, Seven Sisters, etc.  Many of the constellations were named after mythological heroes, animals, or inanimate objects.

Today has been sunny with 6' to 8' swells from the south.
