cleaning a mop.
June 10th's
Answer:
During the days of sailing warships, the
mess tables were used to lay out the dead for viewing after the battle
had ended. Out of respect for those who died in battle, the
tradition to take hats off when entering a ship's mess continues.
When entering a captain's cabin aboard ship, hats are removed to show
respect for the captain.

Sunday
morning at 0906, the Texas Clipper II departed Port
Everglades for Cork, Ireland. As the ship headed to
sea, cadets were lining the rails in their summer white
uniform reminiscing about the short port visit in Fort
Lauderdale.
The cadets had a great time in Fort
Lauderdale in many educational activities. During the day,
some of the cadets lounged on the beach reading their
navigational books while others visited museums in order to
become more culturally educated. At night, cadets could be
seen walking along the Fort Lauderdale beach and sitting at the
cafes off the beach enjoying a cold coke or eating ice cream.
On Sunday afternoon, the traditional Sunday barbecue took place
on the flight deck. Cadets and crew relaxed on the outer
decks as they feasted on barbecue chicken, sausage, and
hamburgers. In the evening, movies were shown in the
hanger.
After 0730 formation this morning, the maintenance company
started scrubbing the exterior decks with soap and freshwater.
Other cadets in the maintenance platoon ensured that all objects
aboard ship were well secured as the ship has started to
encounter seas.
Today has been sunny with 4' to 6' swells from the south.
