Summer Cruise 2013

General Rudder Summer Sea Term 2013 - Includes link to vessel's current position.

First Training Cruise:

All Engine cadets are required to sail with the Texas Maritime Academy. Deck cadets may choose to sail with the Texas Maritime Academy or with SUNY Maritime College. If sailing with the Texas Maritime Academy the voyage will be sixty days, if sailing with the SUNY Maritime college the voyage will be forty-five days. Cadets will learn basic engineering and seamanship, perform routine maintenance, stand watches, attend lectures, and participate in kitchen duty. 

Commercial Cruise:

Cadets may choose from a given list of companies. The order cadets will choose is based off of individual grades, outstanding demerits, missed maintenance, and missed watch. The junior cruise is a ninety day requirement. Cadets must finish a sea project specialized to their type of ship.

Senior Cruise:

All engine cadets are required to sail with the Texas Maritime Academy. Deck cadets may choose to sail with the Texas Maritime Academy or with the SUNY Maritime College. If sailing with the Texas Maritime Academy the voyage will be sixty days, if sailing with SUNY Maritime College voyage will be forty-five days. Cadets will be practicing the role of a licensed mate/engineer under accomplished supervision by being in charge of watch, in charge of maintenance, in charge of kitchen duty, and attending lectures.
