Summer Cruise

First Training Cruise:

All Engine midshipmen are required to sail with the Texas A&M Maritime Academy.  Deck midshipmen may choose to sail with the Texas A&M Maritime Academy, SUNY Maritime College, or with California Maritime Academy.  Each cruise will sail for approximately 60 days.  Midshipmen will learn basic engineering and seamanship, perform routine maintenance, stand watches, attend lectures, and participate in kitchen duty. 

Commercial Cruise:

Not all midshipmen will be able to go commercial, there are limited commercial berths.  Those who have a high GPR, good conduct record, and are selected by the Executive Director of Commercial cruise, may choose from the given list of companies.  The commercial cruise is between 60 to 120 days, based upon the needs of the commercial company.  Midshipmen must finish a sea project specialized to their assigned commercial cruise ship. Those midshipmen who fail the sea project, must complete a new sea project on a training cruise.

Second Training Cruise:

All engine midshipmen are required to sail with the Texas A&M Maritime Academy. Deck midshipmen may choose to sail with the Texas A&M Maritime Academy, SUNY Maritime College, or with California Maritime Academy. Each cruise will sail for approximately 60 days.  Midshipmen will be practicing the role of a licensed mate/engineer under accomplished supervision by being in charge of watch, in charge of maintenance, in charge of kitchen duty, and attending lectures.
