We maintain online help files to assist in the most common computing requests. The CIS Help Desk can be reached by calling (409) 740-4714 (extension 4714 on campus) or by sending an email addressed to helpdesk@tamug.edu.

  • TTVN: CIS helps support the TTVN video conferencing system, which allows classes and meetings to include participants in two locations. This is commonly used for classes and seminars of interest to students in both College Station and Galveston. Full details on the TTVN system are located on the TTVN site for the TAMUG campus.

  • Student Computer Labs: CIS maintains the student computer labs on campus. There are currently four open labs on Mitchell Campus. The three labs located in the Classroom and Laboratory Building (CLB) are used to teach classes, and are open for general use before, between, and after classes. The Learning Resources Center (LRC) is located in the library, and is open for general use. The LRC staff are available to assist in solving computer-related problems. For full information on the open computer labs, please visit the CIS Labs page.

Why has TAMUG implemented Clean Access?

Some of the reasons we implemented Cisco Clean Access is to help stop the spread of viruses and worms on the campus network.  Many machines don't have adequate virus protection and have not done all the recommended patch updates for their operating systems.  If you run Windows XP or 2000 there are Microsoft recommended updates that help keep the machines from becoming infected with viruses and worms.  Cisco Clean Access uses a client that you download to your computer and scans for updated virus protection,  patch updates and spyware.   By using your NetID/ NEO username and password to register your computer on the network,  we are able to identify who is accessing the University Network.  If we discover a problem with a machine on the network we will be able to contact you to help solve the problem.

We are doing this to help with the speed and availability of the network in the residence halls,  we need to keep the problem machines off the network until they are fixed.  We don't want the machines with problems to slow down the network for all the machines that are in good working order.

General Information about access to the University Network.

1- The A&M rule for responsible computing. http://student-rules.tamu.edu/rule22.htm
2- TAMUG bans the use of wireless access points in the dorms, they cause bad IP addresses to be sent out to the network when configured incorrectly.

3- Do not violate copyright laws, no unauthorized distribution or downloading should be done on the University network.

Email and Internet Access

Activate your neo account. College Station provides an OFFICIAL email account for all students, faculty and staff of TAMUG.  This is the way College Station will send official announcements as well as your online billing information.  Please activate your neo.tamu.edu account to ensure you get these important emails.

Every student attending TAMUG must activate and utilize these things:
        o
       NetID
        o
Neo Email account Activate your Neo Account

The NetID is used to control access to a number of Texas A&M University information systems such as, NEO email, online registration and the myrecord.tamu.edu web site.

The new era of student information access began, access to student information moved to a fully-functional, easy-to-navigate, web site http://myrecord.tamu.edu.  The myrecord.tamu.edu web site allows students to check and correct personal information such as phone number and address.  Other useful information will be housed on this website including:

  • Web registration, Enrollment verification, Course schedules, Transcript ordering and Application for graduation.
  • AggiE-Pay  (Use this site to access student account statement and pay online using an e-check or American Express, Discover, and Mastercard. Payment is applied immediately to the student account)
  • Financial Aid Portal (Utilizes the Central Authentication System (CAS)). In order to login, you will need your TAMU Net ID and password. Your Student ID and PIN number are no longer used for authentication).

Students HAVE to activate their Net ID and Neo email to use this service and can get more information on how to access their NEO email account at - http://gateway.tamu.edu/

It is important that all students check their NEO email accounts regularly so that the student will receive email from professors and the University in a timely manner.  Neo emails cannot be forwarded to another email account.  Students can access email from MNet or by typing in the url into any web browser window.  http://neo.tamu.edu

The format for the TAMUG email address will use the student’s initials (two if no middle name) and the last four digits of their Student ID#.  For example: John Z. Doe: email jzd0123@tamug.edu.

Students living off campus may access the internet through the school dial-in connection at no charge.  The user name is the same as email login (e.g. jzd0123) and the password is the same as for the students email.  The local Galveston dial in number is 409-683-1002.  Students with DSL or Cable Modems should contact TAMUG Computing and Information Services to get a virtual private network (VPN) sign-on which will allow them to access library data bases and MNet from off campus.  An information sheet is available with step-by-step instructions for network and dial-in connections from the TAMUG Computing and Information Services Department in CLB 115 or on the campus intranet (MNet) at http://mnet.tamug.edu.

WebCT

WebCT is an interactive service which allows instructors to post information and questions for the students to view and answer. Instructors can upload the class syllabus and homework, and students can submit homework or take quizzes online. Communication tools allow instructors and students to post messages, public and private. For full information regarding WebCT, please visit the WebCT company site, and the TAMUG WebCT page.
