Activating Your NetID

Your NetID is used to access your University supplied email and Blackboard Vista as well as myrecord.tamu.edu and many other University Systems.
           

Take the time to choose a suitable NetID as it will be used as your University email address.

To Activate Your NetID

1. Open a web browser (e.g. Microsoft Internet Explorer or Firefox) and go to the web address:   http://gateway.tamu.edu/.

 2. Under "NetID Account Management" select "Activate NetID".

3. Enter your UIN and Date of Birth

4. Click the Login button.

5. On the next screen, enter your chosen NetID and click Submit
    If your chosen NetID is already in use you will be asked to select another NetID.
           
Note: Read the information about the characters allowed for your NetID on the application screen.
         For your campus email address, TAMU Email automatically defaults the NetID to lower case.
         Also, remember you will be giving this email address to family, friends, and potential employers.
        (We strongly suggest that you choose a name that will not cause you future awkwardness or embarrassment.)

6. Finally, create a password. Enter it again to confirm your password, then click Submit.
                       
Note: Read the information about acceptable passwords on the application screen.
         Your password must be at least eight characters long and must contain at least one number.
         In addition, your password must begin with a letter and cannot be a letter followed by seven numbers.

You have now activated your NetID.

Logging in to your University Email Account


1. Go to http://gateway.tamu.edu/ and under "Email" select " New Tamu Email".

 

You should see the following screen:

 

 

2. Log into your University e-mail account using the NetID and password you just created.

 
3. You can also edit your directory information or change your password by going to  http://gateway.tamu.edu/  
    and under "NetID Account Management" selecting either "Edit Directory" or "NetID Password Management".

Choose a method of receiving e-mail

You have two options:

  1. Use the web-based e-mail tool at https://neo.tamu.edu/ (which can be accessed from any web browser)
  2. Configure an email client at  http://hdc.tamu.edu/connecting/Email/setting up desktop email/index.php to be used to read your mail.

Forgotten Password

If you cannot remember your password you can come into CIS, CLB Room 115 and request a password reset ( bring picture ID and your UIN) or call Helpdesk Central at 979 845 8300.
  

There is also an option within the email system to set a "Security Question" that will enable you to reset your own password if you forget it without having to get your account marked for reset by a helpdesk person.
