Iorgu Petrescu, Thomas M. Iliffe and Serban M. Sārbu. 1994. Contributions
to the knowledge of the cumaceans (Crustacea) from the waters of Jamaica II. Five new
species of Cumella genus . Travaux du Museum d'Histoire Naturelle "Grigore
Antipa", 34:347-367.
Numerous cumaceans belonging to the genera Cyclaspis,
Campylaspis, Oxyurostylis, and Cumella were collected in the
littoral waters of Jamaica by T.M. Iliffe and S.M. Sarbu in 1990 and by S.M.
Sarbu in 1991. The results of the investigation of the former three
genera were presented in a previous paper (Petrescu et al., 1993). The
current paper refers to the genus Cumella and contains a brief
mention on the genus Cyclaspis. The investigation
of the 15 specimens of Cumella originating in all three collecting
stations (Petrescu et al., 1993) resulted in the identification of five new
species as well as two species which had not been previously known from
Jamaica: C. gomoiui Bacescu et Muradian, 1997 and C. vicina
Zimmer, 1944. A specimen of Cyclaspis jonesi Roccatagliata,
1985 was also identified in the sample collected from Discovery Bay.
The material mentioned in this paper is deposited in the collections of the
"Grigore Antipa" Museum of Natural History from, Bucharest (Muzeul de
Istorie Naturala "Grigore Antipa" -MINGA).
