Jan H. Stock, Thomas M. Iliffe and Dennis Williams (1986). The concept "anchialine" reconsidered. Stygologia, 2:90-92.

The term "anchialine", coined by Holthuis (1973), has been provided with a more refined definition, with a greater ecological load.

The "marginal marine cave" ("marine Randhohle" of Riedl, 1966) is considered part of the anchialine habitat. The terms "submarine cave" and "littoral cave" are also defined.
