A transfer student is deemed as one who has registered at another college or university. The applicant must have achieved an overall grade point ratio of 2.5 or better on the work attempted and must meet or surpass this same standard for each of the last two semesters of attendance, if in attendance two or more semesters. A 10-week summer session with a normal load of course work will be considered a full semester.
To Apply as a Transfer Student
Please submit the following as soon as possible to be considered for a student candidate:
- Applicants must submit a formal application for admission (found at www.applytexas.org)
- Submit official transcripts of their record at each college or university previously attended
- Submission of two official high school transcripts as early as possible. Transfer applicants are required to submit an official high school transcript.
This material should be sent to the Office of Admissions and Records, Texas A&M University at Galveston, P.O. Box 1675, Galveston, Texas 77553-1675.
An applicant may not disregard the academic record of any previous education received at another institution, other than exceptions stipulated under the Texas Academic Fresh Start Program. An applicant must be eligible to return to the institution from which the transfer is sought.
Applicants seeking admission to the license-option curricula (see Texas Maritime Academy for application and physical) who have attended another maritime academy or college must provide a letter to the Superintendent of the Texas Maritime Training Program from the Superintendent of the other academy or college verifying that the student is eligible to return to that institution.
On the basis of the credentials submitted, credit will be given for work completed satisfactorily at another properly accredited college or university as long as the work is equivalent in character and extent to similar work at Texas A&M University at Galveston or Texas A&M University. See the section of the online Catalog entitled "Transfer of Credits" for additional information. Students who have attended Texas community colleges can match up their course credits using the Texas Common Course Numbering System, which is also in the online Catalog.
What courses can I take at community college (using the Texas Common Course Numbering System)?
All TAMUG degree programs require English 1301, one year of Kinetics, HIST 1301 and 1302; and GOVT 2305 and 2306.
- Marine Biology students can take BIOL 1406, 1407; CHEM 1412, 2423,and 2425; PHYS 1401 and 1402, MATH 2413 or 1325 and 1324.
- Marine Sciences students can take CHEM 1411, 1412, 2423 and 2425; PHYS 23267, 2126.
- Marine Transportation majors can take MATH 1324 and 1325;
- PHYS 1401 and 1402; ECON 2301.
- Marine Engineers take MATH 2412, 2413 and 2414;
- Physics 2425 (must include a lab).
- Maritime Systems Engineers take MATH 2413, 2414 and 2315.
- Maritime Administration majors take MATH 1324 and 1325; ACCT 2301 or 2401, 2302; ECON 2301 and 2302.
Other courses may also apply toward electives. Please check the TAMUG current catalog to cross reference your curriculum with the TCCNS to make sure your courses will count.
Checking your Admissions Status
You may check your admissions status at the website http://applicanttamug.tamu.edu.
You will need your UIN and birth date (or social security number).
Please be sure that you have paid the application fee for Texas A&M University at Galveston and completed all essays.
If you have not graduated from high school, and are taking dual credit courses at another college, we will not require the transcript until the courses are complete.
