Freshman Admissions
The
first step: Complete the on-line Texas Common application.
The
applicant must have satisfactorily completed certain high school subjects
and must have made an acceptable score on the Scholastic Aptitude Test
(SAT) or on the American College Test (ACT). Freshmen applicants who do
not meet admissions criteria and those with non-traditional high school

circumstances with their application. Those students who qualify for
admission in all respects with the exception of having achieved the
minimum score on the SAT or ACT may qualify for Provisional Admission.

Tests Required of New Students
Texas
A&M University at Galveston requires the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) or
American College Testing Program (ACT) test as a part of its admission
procedures for all freshman applicants and transfer students with less
than 31 graded hours. When registering for these tests, students should
designate that the results be sent to Texas A&M University at Galveston
(Code 6835 for SAT and Code 6592 for ACT). Test scores will not be
accepted unless furnished directly to Texas A&M University at Galveston or
Texas A&M University in College Station by the College Board or the
American College Testing Program.
The test scores
listed below are the minimum requirements for admission for applicants who
have never attended another college or university. They are stated in
terms of the total score achieved by the applicant on the SAT and the ACT.

Although we cannot
guarantee admission to all applicants who meet these minimum requirements,
we have been able to accommodate all who had applied and qualified over
the past several years. If the number of applicants is too large to allow
for the admission of all who have these minimum credentials, those who
present the best combination of academic qualifications and other
attributes will be admitted.
Applicants who meet
the listed admission criteria will have their complete application file
reviewed. This review process considers the following factors:
-
level
of preparation for college as judged by the courses taken, class
standing, and performance on the SAT or ACT;
-
leadership or
exceptional talent as shown in extracurricular activities and work
experiences;
-
adverse
circumstances that might reflect upon the record of the applicant;
-
recommendations
which validate leadership, talent, service, potential, or special
circumstances.
-
family educational
background.
Provisional Admission
A
limited number of freshmen applicants who are not admitted through the
regular admissions procedures, but whose academic backgrounds suggest a
potential for success, may be offered admissions through the Summer
Enrichment Program. If too many applicants request this option, those with
the most promising previous academic performance combined with the most
desirable additional credentials (see review criteria) will be offered
this option. Applicants from underrepresented Texas high schools whose
credentials suggest they have the potential for success are given
preference in the provisional admission decision process. To assure
consideration for this program, prospective students should complete the
application process as early as possible. Admitted students will contract
with the University to maintain satisfactory academic progress. This
program requires attendance on campus at TAMUG; the provisional program is
not available for Summer School at Sea. Participants are strongly
encouraged to attend the Enrichment Program during the second summer term,
but in exceptional circumstances, students may opt to begin in the Fall
term in place of the Summer term.
