Dr. James M. McCloy

            Dr. James M. McCloy came to Texas A&M University at Galveston in 1971 as Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs.  In the years since, he has held a wide variety of academic, research and administrative posts that included managing the entire campus in the absence of the Chief Executive Officer.

            Dr. McCloy is the top academic official of TAMUG, responsible for all matters relating to the faculty, curriculum, degree programs, admissions and records, student financial aid, and everything else involving the educational mission of the university.  Dr. McCloy is a Professor of Geography at College Station; and, a Professor of Marine Sciences at Galveston.

            A scientist and educator of international stature, Dr. McCloy is extensively published and consults in both academic and public/private sector circles.  He is known for his research on coastal environments, aquatic safety and recreational beach management.

            Dr. McCloy is a native of California where he graduated from high school at Pomona.  He holds a B.A. in Geography from State College at Los Angeles and a Ph.D. in Physical Geography from Louisiana State University, with a minor in Cultural Geography.  He served in the Army Security Agency as a cryptographer.  He is listed in numerous Who’s Who publications and has served with various honorary scientific societies.

            He is married to the former Pat Mullins of California.
