Summer Provisional Students

S.A.I.L. Learning Communities provides selected students an opportunity to attend courses during the summer term to assist in academic development and college transition.  The S.A.I.L. New Student Conference opens at 8:30 a.m. on July 2, 2012.  Students will be welcomed to Texas A&M University, have a TAMUG identification card made, purchase books, and make tuition payments till 10:00 a.m.  From 10:00 a.m. to noon, students will move personal belongings into their dorm rooms.

The office of Academic Enhancement will phone Summer S.A.I.L. students in May to register for their summer courses. S.A.I.L. Program participants are required to complete a minimum of two content courses during the summer term and a kinesiology class.  Students are required to take CAEN-101 “Applications of Learning Theories” with either Math or English. Students need to be ready to answer questions about receiving summer financial aid and choosing a meal plan, parking, and mailbox.

Academice Enhancement will not be able to enroll students for the summer until they have completed the Math Placement Exam. The Math Placement Exam is an advising tool used to evaluate a student's math skills. Go to http://www.tamug.edu/acen/Testing/MathPlacement.html to take the math placement test online--available 24 hours a day. Students need their NetID and University Identification Number (UIN) to log in.

If needed, students will be enrolled in basic skills non-credit hour courses for math, reading, and/or writing to fulfill “college readiness” requirements for the Texas Success Initiative (TSI).   You may contact the Office of Academic Enhancement if you have questions about college readiness at (409) 741-4343 or Testinginfo@tamug.edu.

Participants will reside in campus housing (unless an exemption is granted for those living with a parent in Galveston County or the surrounding area) to get the full college-going experience.  If you have questions about campus housing please contact Residence Life at (409) 740-4445.

S.A.I.L. helps students focus on success by providing support, personalized advising, and skill development in areas specific for each.  TAMUG S.A.I.L. students will learn firsthand why being an Aggie holds prestige, both academically and personally!  S.A.I.L. provides class activities and assignments that are structured to allow students to work together, to learn together and to get to know each other.
