Supplemental Instruction

FACT: College-level courses are difficult. Take a step towards helping yourself!

Want to learn how to study for a class?

Want to get ahead in class instead of cramming at the last minute?

Don't know anyone in your class to study with?

Need a refresher in a pre-requisite course to succeed in an upper-level course?

SI is a free service provided by the Office of Academic Enhancement, so take advantage of it!

What is SI?

This free program is designed to reduce attrition and improve academic performance through group study.

SI is offered for “high risk” courses that cover basic biology, chemistry, math, and physics. SI leaders have completed these courses successfully and hold structured, group study sessions outside the classroom.

Each SI holds a one hour session, three times a week, Monday through Thursday during the hours of 7:00 PM and 9:00PM in classrooms around campus. They implement activities and identify learning styles to maximize student learning. SI introduces and exercises study skills, critical thinking, and problem solving to better prepare students for academic success. Students must use their UIN or NetID to log in/out of the TutorTrac kiosk upon every visit to an SI session.

SI is a proactive approach to student success that finds a balance between modeling, teaching, practice, and feedback. The SI program targets traditionally difficult courses, rather than the students who are having trouble in the course. In close partnership with the professor, SI leaders plan, and facilitate activities that not only reinforce the content, but introduce and exercise study skills, critical thinking and problem solving. By focusing on these skills, SI paves the way for future success and student independence throughout their college career.

Please check the schedule on TutorTrac to find out times and locations for sessions offered this semester.
