Galveston Gateway

Learn with TAMUG!

The Galveston Gateway Program helps incoming students become fully prepared for their academic program.  During Galveston Gateway, students take two (2) courses towards their majors and/or University core curriculum during the Summer II Term.  Galveston Gateway students also participate in the Galveston Gateway Living Learning Community (LLC), in which they live together in a Residence Hall, and meet weekly to learn outside of the classroom.

There are 3 possible Fall admission outcomes after students complete Galveston Gateway:

  1. Galveston Gateway good standing: continue as a full student for Fall semester
Students have met the minimum cumulative 2.0 GPA, have attended all classes, including the Galveston Gateway learning community course, adhered to University Rules and Regulations, demonstrated a strong commitment to their academic achievement, and exemplified the core values of Texas A&M University: Excellence, Integrity, Leadership, Loyalty, Respect, and Selfless Service.
  2. Galveston Gateway probation: continue as a full student for Fall semester in probationary status
Exceptional situations may warrant a semester of probation. These exceptions are very rare but may include additional accommodations for learning disabilities, additional mathematics preparation, or developmental education needs.  In all cases, the student has demonstrated a strong commitment to their academic achievement and the core values of Texas A&M University.
  3. Galveston Gateway suspension: student status is discontinued
Students have fallen significantly short of the minimum cumulative 2.0 GPA, and have major discrepancies with class attendance, and the demonstrated commitment and/or adherence to University Rules and Regulations.

Students do not apply to Galveston Gateway, but are offered a seat in the program.  It is important that Galveston Gateway students understand that the successful completion of the Galveston Gateway program is a prerequisite for continuation at the university.
