TAMUG Hurricane / Evacuation Communication Plan-9-19-2005

PRIMARY COMMUNICATION METHOD-WWW.TAMUG.EDU: In the event we evacuate from the TAMUG campus our primary form of passing information will be via the www.tamug.edu web site. We have an alternate server with a current version of our TAMUG web site at College Station which we will switch to. CIS staff will be in College Station to update the web site as necessary.

SECONDARY COMMUNICATION METHOD-EMAIL USING THE WEB EMAIL AT TAMUGEX1.TAMUG.EDU: The secondary form of communication will be via your @tamug.edu email address. You can access this email through any web browser at the tamugex1.tamug.edu URL. Our plans are to relocate our email system to College Station if an evacuation is ordered. This will result in intermittent email outages of the @tamug.edu email server.

ALTERNATE EMAIL-NEO.TAMU.EDU: In the event that we are unable to provide email services through the @tamug.edu email server from College Station your backup email will be via your NEO email account at college station. This account is your NetID and ends in @tamu.edu. Most people have this account forwarded to your @tamug.edu account. You will need to log into NEO.tamu.edu and select the Directory tab and then the Edit choice – and remove the forwards. You can then access NEO.tamu.edu and log in with your NetID and password to check your NEO email from any web browser. If you have forgotten your NETID or password you can call the College Station Help Desk at 979-845-8300

ALL other phone and computer network and applications at TAMUG will be shut down during the evacuation including the phone system, the network and all application servers like the shared T: drive, remote access, etc. WebCT is hosted at College Station and can be accessed at webct.tamu.edu

TAMUG EVACUATION COMMAND POST: The TAMUG administrative staff will man a command post at College Station in the Jack K Williams Administration Building. As of Tuesday, September 27, 2005 at 1:00 p.m. the command center moved to Galveston. Their phone number will be 409-740-4503.

TAMUG MESSAGE NUMBER: A recorded message with campus information remains available at 979-862-4285. This is the number students and parents should contact for updates.
