Coastal Photography ages 13-18

 

 

Combine science and art in your choice of five unique photography camps:

 

June 14-20 "Photo-Journalism" (digital)

Learn photo-journalism from a Galveston free-lance photographer.  Using your own digital camera, learn how to shoot images all around Galveston Island for newspaper/magazine feature stories.   Learn when it's time to switch from color to black and white.  Learn how to quickly and efficiently edit you own digital images on a television screen.  Critique and discuss historic B&W/color images of Hurricane Alicia for news content.Meet a newspaper photographer.  Discuss daily photo assignments and a newspaper career.Examine quality magazines like Life Print a sample black and white or color photograph to send to your parents.  Set levels, contrast and saturation of your digital images using Adobe Photoshop Elements 4.  Produce your own portfolio. Finish the week with an exhibit of your best photographs at the auditorium.

 

June 21-27 " Digitally Capture the Island in Black & White" (digital)

Using your digital camera, learn how to see and photograph scenes in black and white. Learn the best time of day to take black and white pictures and how to shoot stark, dramatic black and white portraits.   Put into practice the "rule of thirds". Photographically illustrate a CD jacket cover.   Participate in photo excursions around the Galveston Harbor, Big Reef Nature Park, the beach, Pier 19 shrimp boats, the Railroad Museum, the Gulf, the 1877 Tall Ship Elissa, the Historic Strand District, Beachtown, Murdoch's Gift Shop and Moody Gardens.  Design and mail a greeting card. Visit an art gallery.  Manipulate your digital photographs using Adobe Photoshop Elements 4. Produce your own black and white mini portfolio. Finish the week with an art exhibit of your best images at the auditorium.

July 5-11 "Advanced Digital" (digital - color, sepia, black & white)

Using your digital camera, learn how to "see photographs". Learn about the ideal time of day to take pictures referred to as the "golden hour". Frame scenes using "the rule of thirds".  Shoot special effects and ghost-like images.  Receive tips on how to approach and photograph coastal birds without scaring them.  Shoot a studio portrait with professional lighting equipment.  Participate in fun photographic treasure hunts along the Historic Strand.  Feature photo excursions at the best locations in Galveston including: the Harbor, the beach, Pier 19 shrimp boats, the Railroad Museum, the 1877 Tall Ship Elissa, Murdoch's Gift Shop, Beachtown, Evia and Moody Gardens.  Make a greeting card and CD jacket cover. Visit an art gallery.   Manipulate your digital photos using Adobe Photoshop Elements 4 in the Texas A&M computer lab. Produce your own mini portfolio. Finish the week with an art exhibit of your best images at the auditorium.

July 12-18 "Digital Art"

A digital photography course.  Campers will look closely at the relationship between art and photography with an emphasis on strong design elements, special effects and color.  Campers will sharpen their photographic eye and learn to "see photographs". Campers will take complex scenes and reduce them to their simplest form.  Focusing on subjects of interest, campers will produce striking art photographs from common scenes and objects.  This photo camp will feature digital photography at the best locations around Galveston Island including the Historic Strand, Shrimp Boats at Pier 19, the Railroad Museum, the Elissa, the beach, a waterfall, the Gulf, Moody Gardens, the Grand 1894 Opera House, Beachtown, Murdoch's gift shop, Evia and the volcano at the Rainforest Café. Design and mail a greeting card. Design a CD cover.  Visit an art gallery.  Manipulate your digital photographs using Adobe Photoshop Elements 4.Produce your own photographic portfolio. Finish the week with an art exhibit of your best images at the auditorium. Possibly supply photographic images for the new Sea Camp Photography Website. 

 

July 19-25 "Digital Photography & Multi-Media"

A digital photography course.  Campers will look closely at the relationship between digital photography and computer technology with an emphasis on design, special effects and studio lighting. Produce a power point presentation of your best digital images put to music and show it in the auditorium. This photo camp will feature digital photography at locations around Historic Galveston Island that best illustrate the words to the camper's music selection.  Design a greeting card using your own photograph.  Visit an art gallery.  Learn how to compose professional portraits. Learn how to manipulate images in Adobe Photoshop Elements 4.Supply a power point presentation to promote Sea Camp to campers next year.
