Sea Campus Kids is a marine science day program for students 6- 11 years old.

Learning is accomplished through multi-sensory interactive experience. Students will have their hands-on and their feet-in as they wade through a salt marsh, visit a turtle hatchery, dissect a fish or seine the surf. Campers will also be engaged in asking questions, discovering answers, observing problems, and creating possible solutions. The marine science content of the sessions will be monitored by a university marine biologist. Classes will be taught by teams of educators and marine science specialists.

Aqua-Marines...to the Rescue! - Aqua-Marine Rescuers are called to duty to get their feet wet and protect their marine friends. Junior scientists work to understand and protect the marine habitats of Galveston by participating in a wetland restoration project, exploring water chemistry, learning about ways to protect sea turtles and investigating methods for cleaning up oil spills. Join a competition for sand castle durability to demonstrate causes and possible prevention of sand erosion. Beach and salt marsh field trips.

Marine Mammals - Enter the wonderful world of marine mammals, our hairy ocean friends & learn about flukes & flippers, baleen & blowholes, spy hopping & breaching. Compare dolphins & porpoises, seals & sea lions. Take a “close” look at the largest mammal on Earth, study the only aquatic bear, and get to know the clever sea otter. Marine mammal explorers will also learn how echolocation works and how to rescue a stranded animal. Beach trips and dolphin watching expedition. Appropriate for beginners and advanced explorers!

Stargazer, oar, and lumpfish just to name a few; we'll learn about why and how creatures live just where they do. What lives so near the surface it sees the sunlight shine and what lives in the midnight zone with an amazing glowing spine? With a beach trip to explore, a dissection and much, much more...a voyage into the abyss is surely not one to miss!

No Bones About It - Join fellow future ichthyologists in this detailed study of elasmobranchs - cartilaginous fish. In a recent survey conducted by Fish Bowl Polling Service, this boneless group was overwhelmingly voted: "Most Intriguing Fish" in the sea. This star studded group includes sharks, skates and rays and will be the focus of our inquiry. Investigations will uncover the amazing diversity and extraordinary adaptations found in these marvelous fish. Beach trips and fish dissection.

Wild About Engineering  - Advanced Workshop for ages 9 to 11 Investigate, imagine, design...oh yeah! Jump into the design arena and join the Sea Campus Kids (SCK) engineering team. Design process, team building and a prototype product will define this venture as we explore a variety of engineering fields through activities and projects. Discover the what and why of slime, the power of the wind and waves and the ups and downs of roller coasters. Accept the challenge of the final project design and create a PowerPoint presentation of your teams' work. Field trips to the beach and campus engineering facilities.

Sharing Spaces  - Getting along in an ocean neighborhood may not be as easy as it sounds. Sure some ocean creatures live side by side without even so much as getting to know each other. And then again some neighbors develop such as close relationship that they are practically cleaning each other's teeth...well actually one might really be tending to the dental hygiene of another! Explore the symbiotic relationships down in the deep and discover the freeloaders, the scroungers, the cordial, the aloof and the lethal members of the community. Field trips to the beach and salt marsh.

Extreme Parenting - In the calm of the deep the daily routines and life styles of ocean tenants may actually shock and astonish. Take a wild look at the unusual life cycles and extraordinary parenting methods of ocean inhabitants. Investigate the extreme dedication of the octopus mom, the devotion of seahorse dad and the bizarre cichlid which uses its mouth as a playpen for its fry(babies). Discover just how far an organism will go to ensure the survival of their young. Field trips to the beach and salt marsh.

Outrageous Adaptations - Survival in the ocean requires special talents and astounding skills. Discover how a sea creature's special adaptations allow it to thrive and survive in its ocean niche. Explore the extraordinary defenses of the seemingly vulnerable sea cucumber, the unique ability of the firefly squid to catch its dinner, and the unique sixth sense of the ocean's most successful predator-the shark. Explore the cool and occasionally really gross survival skills of tenacious marine animals. Invertebrate dissection and field trips to the beach and salt marsh.

Sea Squirts NEW!!! - A special sea campus kids event just for 4 and 5 year old budding marine scientists. This camp is designed for eager young explorers accompanied by an assistant (parent) to join an inquiry expedition to the water's edge. Explorers will spend one session making discoveries engaged in the sea squirt classroom and one day researching the sandy beach marine environment and one creating a product reflecting what they discovered during their adventure.
