A Journey Fraught with Rough Passages

All is now shipshape for Kathryn Perry. Today, she is a model TAMUG student with a portfolio of achievements. She looks forward to receiving her bachelor’s degree ― with a major in Marine Transportation and a minor in Maritime Administration ― in the May commencement ceremony. Additionally, on the day prior to her graduation she’ll receive a commission in the U.S. Navy Merchant Marine Reserve.

The Inter-Collegiate Sailing Association names TAMUG student Ryan Carden to its 2010 First Team All Academic Sailing Team

Ryan Carden, a junior TAMUG Marine Transportation major -- and member of the sailing team -- is one of nine students in the nation that the Inter-Collegiate Sailing Association (ICSA) has selected for its 2010 First Team All Academic Sailing Team.

In all (also counting students named to the Second Team) the ICSA recognized 19 outstanding student athletes who were nominated for excellence in academic and athletic performance in the 2009-2010 academic year. According to Mitch Brindley, ICSA president, selection of the association’s first team acknowledges an emphasis on academic achievement. “These individuals have met a certain balance between sailing and academic excellence,” he said... TAMUG honors 158 Aggie Scholars at annual banquet Aggie Scholarssponsored by The Association of Former Students

The Office of Academic Enhancement celebrated the accomplishments of 158 TAMUG students at the 2010 Aggie Scholars Banquet on Nov. 3 at Fisherman’s Warf in Galveston.

The student honorees earned the “Aggie Scholar” designation during the 2009-2010 academic year for academic achievements resulting in grade point averages of 3.5 or higher...(Full Story)

Ny’Eshia Murray

Ny’Eshia Murray just wants to be part of something bigger than herself. Ny’Eshia claims she’s always had a “thing for the water,” so when a friend introduced her to Texas A&M University at Galveston, she discovered an excellent match.

At first, she considered majoring in Marine Biology. After enrolling, she decided to join the Texas Maritime Academy (TMA) Cadet Battalion, but she discovered another possibility --- Marine Transportation.

“I love ships, and I thought the traveling thing would be an even better pursuit for me,” she says.
