TAMUG honors 158 Aggie Scholars at annual banquet sponsored by The Association of Former Students

The Office of Academic Enhancement celebrated the accomplishments of 158 TAMUG students at the 2010 Aggie Scholars Banquet on Nov. 3 at Fisherman’s Warf in Galveston.

The student honorees earned the “Aggie Scholar” designation during the 2009-2010 academic year for academic achievements resulting in grade point averages of 3.5 or higher.

The Association of Former Students also recognized student recipients of Texas Institute of Oceanography Aggie Scholarsawards, Undergraduate Research Fellowships, tutoring awards, the Association of Former Students Distinguished Achievement Award, The Jeffery H. Giles Memorial Scholarship, TAMUG Awards for Undergraduate Research Scholars and the Tri-Beta Biological Honor Society Freshman Biology Award.

“Texas A&M University at Galveston, in general, and the Office of Academic Enhancement, in particular, thanks The Association of Former Students for their generous donation to support this year’s Aggie Scholars Banquet,” said Academic Advisor Merrideth Kuhl.

Dr. Patrick Louchouarn, associate professor of Marine Sciences and past recipient of the Association of Former Students Distinguished Achievement Award, addressed the gathering that honored students – and included parents; TAMUG faculty members; administrators and staff; and friends.

Dr. William Seitz, acting associate vice president for Academic Affairs and chief academic officer, and Dr. Donna Lang, Vice President for Academic Affairs, presented awards to the students.

Aggie Scholars Brittany Davis, Britney Greer, Zachary Oyer, Jessica Spurgin, and Laura Timm received Texas Institute of Oceanography awards at the banquet.

Daniel Dalgleish received the Tutoring Excellence Award and Sean Hennigan received the Most Promising Tutoring Award.

Rebecca Sappenfield was this year’s Jeffery H. Giles Memorial Scholarship Award recipient.

TAMUG’s Awards for Undergraduate Research Scholars went to Brittney Davis, David Gardner, Britney Greer, Matthew Norwood, and Zachary Oyer.

William Stovall earned the TriBeta Biological Honor Society Freshman Biology Award.

Members of The Association of Former Students attending the event were Janice Quast, Class of ‘97, coordinator for Annual Giving, and Brandi Yerkes, Class of ‘04, coordinator of Class Programs.



Galveston residents among the current Aggies Scholars include:
