TAMUG raises record amount money ($18,049) for local SECC competition
January 11, 2011
The record amount of money TAMUG’s faculty and staff contributed to the State Employees Charitable Campaign (SECC) during the 2010 fall semester –totaling of $18,049 -- propelled the university to a victory over cross-town rival Galveston College -- whose efforts raised $16,684.
Over the past five years, TAMUG and Galveston College have waged friendly competitions to determine which faculty and staff could generate the most funding for Texas’ only statutorily authorized workplace campaign for state agency and higher education employees – the SECC.
As in past years, due to agreements observed by administrators on both campuses, the victor earns the privilege to fly its flag for a day over the other school’s campus.
In December after the results were tabulated, Dr. William J. Merrell, acting vice president and CEO, and Betty Thompson, senior Human Resource representative, delivered a TAMUG flag to Dr. W. Myles Shelton, president of Galveston College, and Dr. Gaynelle Hayes, vice president for Administration.
That flag flew over the Galveston College campus for a day in honor of TAMUG’s outstanding efforts and victory in the SECC charitable fund-raising contest for 2010.
Merrell and Thompson extended thanks to everyone at TAMUG who participated in making the 2010 charitable campaign a worthwhile event.
