I have worked for the Naval Oceanographic Office on the Mississippi
Gulf Coast as a geophysicist for the last 13 years. I started
out working with gravity processing and analysis but have specialized
in seafloor imagery for the past several years. I work primarily
with side-scan sonar imagery but also get to work with the most sophisticated
multi-beam bathymetric systems available. While most of my work
is in the office, I have been able to participate in over 30 surveys
aboard our deep ocean survey vessels through the years. My trips
have taken me throughout the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans and the Arabian
Sea. I have just recently been married (after 10 years together
we decided it was time to make it official) and I have just bought
a new house in Diamondhead. It is right on the golf course and
hopefully I will be able to fix up our golf cart and spend some time
on the course.

Since graduation, I have worked for three different companies in the
industry. First I sailed with Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines for a couple
of years, then worked with P&O Containers as operations and sales
for eight years out of their Houston and Dallas offices. Now I work
for Odfjell Tankers for 3 years and love living in the Clear Lake
area. My husband and I will celebrate our 1st anniversary
on April 10 and expect our first child, a little girl , on May 28,
2000. Her name will be Madeline Elizabeth Schaefer. So life couldnt
be better!

" After leaving TAMUG I got my MS at A&M with Dr. Neill.
I couldn’t find a decent-paying position following my MS, so
I worked in cancer research for 2 years. My boss suggested I get a
PhD in medical research, but I decided instead to try to get back
into fisheries. I was accepted into the University of British Columbia
and the University of Washington, and chose UW, where I studied under
Dr. John R. Skalski. There I studied population dynamics of Pacific
Razor Clam (Siliqua patual) – everyone else was doing salmon.
Since then I’ve worked for a consulting firm, NMFS, and now
TPWD. "

Got crazy, had three kids, love them very much. Now if they would
just slow down. Mary Ruth is in college (UT and GC), Molly is at Ball
High and Jacob is in 3rd grade. Swim team, little league, Irish dance,
bagpipes they keep me running. Divorced for quite a while now and very
happy with that decision. Worked doing CA research, Neurosurgical,
Biodefense and now Metabolic Research coordinator on a couple of NASA
projects here at UTMB. Very busy but I like the work. Tried leaving
the island three times. Couldn’t make it stick. The big city is not
for me. I suppose I will go back to my to my roots and take all those
MARB jobs I couldn’t take with kids in tow when I retire from the
state in a few years. Have kept in contact with a few but would love
to hear from the guys from ‘The Zoo”. Want to know how things are on
the Gateway Clipper.

Finally "officially" graduated in August, 2001. The boss is happy
about that. I'm getting married in December of 2001; hopefully getting
a house shortly before that. Trying to get some experience at my current
job then I'm going to try for TNRCC again.

"I received my MS in Oceanography in 1996 and PhD in Civil (Environmental)
Engineering in 2002. Since then I have been working as a Post Doctoral
Fellow in the Chemistry Department at the University of California,
Berkeley and as a Guest Researcher in the Nuclear Science Division
at the Lawrence Berkeley National Lab. My specialty is in the fate
and transport of radioactive contaminants in the environment. I have
been happily married since 1996 to my wife Amy, who I met and married
in Galveston! We have one daughter, Logan, who was born 1/27/01 and
we are pregnant with number 2 due in April 2004. I enjoy climbing
during my free time and even guided privately and for TAMU while I
attended graduate school."

"I have just recently started working in a very interesting aspect
of aquaculture in the Biomedical research field. Aquaculture is used
to raise fish that are used for many aspects of research, such as
cancer, cell development, diabetes, and leukemia. This position is
at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD. I work for Charles
River Laboratories and we are contracted with the government to run
their aquatics program. We are also looking for a new technician so
I would appreciate info on how to post on your job board. I
have also recently been engaged to a wonderful woman, Jennifer Durkin,
who is a grad of Rider University in New Jersey. We hope to be married
October of next year. Hope you all are doing well!"

“After
a successful sailing career in the maritime industry for MTL and Sabine
until 2001, I fell ill with a disabling inner ear disease which prohibited
me from working shipboard. Since then, I have endured a few surgeries
and have slowly been able to get back to functioning. Recently, I
attended massage therapy school and I am now going into the field
of neuromuscular therapy. It’s a long ways from where I started,
but it has turned out to be a positive new path.”

"After I left from TAMUG in 1984 I went to the U.K. to continue
my studies where I gained a BA in Economics and an MSc in Shipping,
Trade and Finance. In 1988 I returned to Cyprus where I continued
to study by correspondence and later I qualified as a Fellow of the
Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers, and Member of the Institute of
Chartered Arbitrators. At the same time I was working for a German
offshore ship management company. In 1999 I went to Lisbon, Portugal
to work for a shipping company. In 2000 I decided that I should return
back to Cyprus and start again the old family ship agency business
in Limassol, Cyprus. I am privileged to represent the U. S. Navy 6th
Fleet in Cyprus. I would like very much to hear from people who remember
me and especially my very good friend David Graham Yoole whom I am
trying to locate for many years now."

In 1995, I returned to Colorado and attended a school for paralegal
certification. Used that experience to transition to Law School in
Denver. Married TH the summer between my second and third year of

I took a year off from studying, passed the bar in the summer of 2001

I am enjoying being able to raise Cole and Madison while working from
home."
