Since graduation I lived and/or surfed in Mixico, Hawaii, Florida, Oregon, Virginia, Japan, Bali, and California. Now I'm back in Galveston, working, raising kids, playing in a band (The ReliX) and riding a longboard! My daughter is about to graduate from HS and attend A&M (main campus) as an Honors Student. I'm building my own outrigger sailing canoe in hopes of circumnavigating Galveston this summer! Life is good!!

" I am about to complete my assignment aboard NOAA's research vessel RONALD H. BROWN, out of Charleston, SC. While here, I was promoted to Lieutenant (jg). I have been aboard for more than two years now, and have been extended until June (2004). When I leave, I will transfer to the hydrographic office in Norfolk, VA, where I will serve as liaison for NOAA's East Coast hydrographic ships. These vessels are responsible for surveying our harbors and coastal areas, and getting this information onto both electronic and paper nautical charts. My specific job there is to help those ships solve any problems they have with the software used to acquire this hydrographic data. I should be in Norfolk for approximately three years while on this assignment.

"I am currently working as a Biochemistry Analyst at one of the country's leading biotechnology companies, Amgen, Inc. I am also pursuing my art interests (creating and selling drawings, prints, jewelry). I am teaching art to at-risk children. I will be returning to school to earn a master's in Education. I will then use my knowledge of art and marine sciences to teach children. By combining hands-on art projects with science lessons, children can comprehend and retain information quicker and easier."

“I enjoy living in Florida with my husband of 5 years. We both work half the year as Merchant Mariners. I have my Unlimited Master’s License and just recently sailed on it. My company was looking forward to hosting the Sea Aggies this summer during a Port Canaveral port visit. Too bad the ship didn’t make it though. Hello to all my wayward Texas “Crasher” classmates!”

When I entered as a freshman in 1993, I thought that I would graduate with a Marine Science degree, but I decided that Galveston was just a little too small. After I transferred from TAMUG in 1994, I found my way to the main campus in College Station where I went through a variety of majors before settling on one, Wildlife & Fisheries. I graduated a summer late, August ’97, and found myself in Dallas. About 7 months after graduation, I was offered a job with the Dallas Zoo Education Department as a Zoo Keeper. I was responsible for about 35 different animals: owls, armadillos, ferrets, a kinkajou, a 12 foot boa, 5 other snakes, and some invertebrates. There was only one problem; it was permanently temporary with no benefits. I stayed for 15 months. I am now a receptionist for an international relocation firm. I will eventually go back to graduate school and see where that leads me, but for now things couldn’t be any better.

TtNUS is an environmental engineering and consulting company, and I am busy working five projects at this time! I guess the experience of motherhood while still attending school gave me a one-up on the whole multi-takings thing! Kristopher is (can you believe it..) 8 years old now and is very busy with soccer and school. He is going to be starting little league in the summer!

Living in the northwest is great. Oregon is beautiful, the summers are spectacular, and the winters rainy and cool. I have been here now for 4 years. I spent 3 years working for an environmental/engineering firm, testing environmental samples for hydrocarbons. Not too exciting, but I learned a lot, and met a couple of really great people! I now work for the University of Oregon where I am a full time preparatory in the biology teaching labs. It’s a great job! I get summers off. I get to interact with students and professors alike. The people here are extremely nice and down to earth. It has been a good and rewarding career move. I enjoy being in the university setting, and perhaps will look to getting a grad degree while I am here. All of my family is in Texas, so I still visit home once a year. I do miss Galveston and Austin, and friends and family, without a doubt!

“Frank and I have moved further away from Seattle, to Monroe. We’re so glad to no longer be living in an apartment! I’ve just been hired at one of the stronger, better dot.com companies, where I will be in customer service/sales. So far, we’re a family of three, with our beagle, Daisy. There are no children in the near future, but they’re always an option!”

“Had an early career of excellent experience, witnessed extreme change within the industry, had some upheaval, disappointments, watching the industry become no fun, riddled with rubber stamp qualification certification, loss of ships in the merchant marine, and wages decreasing. Just look at the MMP contract with Matson Navigation Company.
Started well, shipped off the board, Lykes Brothers, Moore-McCormack, PFE, after getting my A book with MMP was permanent chief mate with APL. Then after 3 years with APL and many excellent work references, while on a leave of absence to attend graduate school, the newly appointed Marine Superintendent at APL in 1991 transferred me to a ship that was being sold to another company without asking or informing me. I found out from the self-serving union representative at that time. Fought it myself and lost. Then tried to get on with Matson, but a certain individual captain in the fleet worked to make sure I was not hired. I finally got on as a select chief mate a few years later, but then a certain captain wrote a totally false evaluation and talked with the existing superintendent to follow up on his back stabbing career character assassination action to make sure it stuck. So as the available jobs shrink, it becomes more of who you know than what your job skills are. I am disappointed with the overall aspect that the merit-based system is being replaced by nepotism-based advancement. So I am shipping off the board, and hoping to get on with Horizon Lines. These days I do not recommend this career direction to any young students. It is a great education, and perhaps a couple of years to work, but there are better conditions and paying careers available out there."

"After graduation, I spent about 4 years working in the Pacific Northwest, for NMFS, The International Pacific Halibut Commission, and some commercial fishing companies performing stock assessments. I met my wife, Ann, in Seattle and we were married in Annapolis, MD. I was hired by Moody Gardens (Galveston) during the construction phase of the Aquarium as the Cold Water Lead Biologist. After opening Moody, I took a job with the design and construction team of The Oklahoma Aquarium in Tulsa, OK. We opened in May 2003, the same month my twins, Ava and Maren were born. Now that the aquarium is opened, I have been named Curator, and am lucky to be working for a Sea Aggie Director (Kenny Alexopoulos '95) and have a Sea Aggie Assistant Curator (Jeff Faucett '98). Any alumni in the Tulsa area should come visit the Aquarium and see what a bunch of Aggies have done in Oklahoma."

After graduating in ’96, I wondered around aimlessly looking for a job in my field for 2 years, with no luck. I moved to Corpus in May ‘98 after taking a job with the Texas State Aquarium Education Department. I worked at TSA for a year, and then decided to go back to school and pursue a degree in teaching. I applied at the A&M branch here in Corpus and was accepted into the Education program in fall of ’99. I am now 1/3 of the way through and expect to graduate with my M.S. in summer of 2001.
